What is a Wheel Speed Sensor and How is it Related to my ABS?
This sensor is an important part of your car’s overall braking system. It plays a vital role in making sure your vehicle comes to a safe and controlled stop. It is responsible for measuring the rotational speed of each wheel and communicating that information to the ABS (anti-lock braking system) module. With this data, the system can quickly assess any discrepancies in speed and adjust the braking power accordingly, ensuring that you maintain optimal control over your vehicle in all driving conditions. Without a working wheel speed sensor, your ABS system won’t be able to do its job properly, putting you and your passengers at risk. These sensors are located near the driveshaft or the wheel bearing and because of this location, they are always exposed to the elements while you’re driving. They get pounded with snow and mag chloride in the winter and water and dust in the summer. Because of this, there is always rust infiltrating the sensors and damaging the inside components which will eventually result in your ABS warning light coming on.
